Composite/vinyl-wrapped pilings (saltwater-resistant, near-zero maintenance, premium cost) are growing in use on high-end Naples waterfront estates. The correct choice depends on water exposure, structural requirements, and desired lifespan. On open-water sites, we specify concrete as a baseline regardless of budget preferences — wood at the required diameter and embedment depth for open-water hurricane loading is frequently as expensive as concrete, and concrete lasts three times as long.
Specify capacity at 25% above your vessel's total loaded weight (boat, fuel, engine, gear). Minimum 3.5 feet of water at mean low tide is required for most residential lifts — verify this during site assessment. For daily use on a high-end property, hydraulic lifts offer the smoothest and quietest operation. Electric cable lifts are reliable and cost-effective for seasonal use. All Collier County installations should include an engineered hurricane strap system specified at install — retrofitting is more expensive and less effective.
